Local Artists Use New Sea Turtle Tanks as Giant Canvas

Sponsorship Available!

South Padre Island, TX – September 7, 2018 – Sea Turtle, Inc. announced today the upcoming creation of an aquatic mural series for the new educational complex opened in February 2018. These murals will be painted on the sea turtle tanks that house the residents. The residents are non-releasable sea turtles serving as educational ambassadors to their species and have their forever home at Sea Turtle, Inc.

Local artist and business owner, Christina Salazar along with local artist Sandra Urie and Reynaldo Alvarado Jr., will be painting these masterpieces at the educational facility beginning September 12, 2018. “The murals will bring our visitors closer to the underwater environments in our area and enhance their educational experience”, said Jeff George, Executive Director. All the turtles at Sea Turtle, Inc. have unique stories to tell, and the art commissioned for the turtles will be another impactful educational tool.

The public will be able to experience the murals coming to life when visiting Sea Turtle, Inc. starting September 12th. The first tank to be painted will be the 56,000-gallon aquarium which will be completed in one week. This tank is home to Gerry, an Atlantic green sea turtle, recognized nationally when Sea Turtle, Inc. founder Ila Loetscher took him to many television appearances including David Letterman & Johnny Carson. There are five resident tanks which will be completed in phases. Sponsorship opportunities are available for each mural art.
