Summer Internships

Internship time periods: 8 positions available for mid March – mid August

Description of Internship: Interns will participate in all aspects of Sea Turtle, Inc’s mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured sea turtles, educate the public, and assist with conservation efforts for all marine turtle species and gain valuable experience working at a non-profit sea turtle rehabilitation center.  Interns will work in our rehabilitation facility with the general public and be required to give short educational presentations and help care for resident sea turtles. Interns will also have the opportunity to learn about medical care of sea turtles and Kemp’s ridley nest conservation. Tasks at the facility will include (but not limited to): public education, daily husbandry, medical treatment, promoting memberships & adoptions, assisting in gift shop, and general maintenance of facility. In addition to working at the rehabilitation facility, interns will conduct ATV beach patrols for nesting sea turtles along a 32 mile stretch and remote 7 mile stretch of open beach, as well as maintain and monitor relocated nests in a corral and assist with hatchling releases.

Requirements: Applicants must be studying in or a graduate of biological science at a university or college. Undergraduate applicants must be of Junior standing or higher. U.S. citizenship or paperwork to work in the U.S. is required. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and hold a valid driver's license. Passport recommended but not required. Interns must be comfortable working in adverse weather conditions including high winds, direct sunlight, high heat and humidity.

Housing provided on South Padre Island with $35 per work day stipend. Food and transportation not provided. Personal vehicle is not required on the island.
