Summer Internships

Internship time periods: 8 positions available for mid March – mid August


Description of Internship: This internship is a multi-disciplinary program aimed at providing the intern with experience in three aspects of sea turtle conservation: Public education, nest conservation, and sea turtle rehabilitation. Interns will spend 60% of their time working in our educational complex and will be required to give educational presentations, promote adoptions and memberships, and assist in the gift shop, among other tasks. Interns will also spend 30% of their time conducting activities related to nest conservation including: ATV patrols looking for sea turtle nesting activity along a 32-mile stretch and remote 7-mile stretch of open beach, maintenance/monitoring of relocated nests in a corral, and assisting in hatchling releases. Finally, interns will spend 10% of their time working in our rehabilitation center assisting our staff with daily rehab procedures and husbandry.

Requirements:Applicants must be college graduates in biological science, wildlife and fisheries science, environmental science, or other related fields. Non-degreed applicants may apply but must be a junior or senior in college and have the flexibility of starting March 15, 2018. U.S. citizenship or paperwork to work in the U.S. is required. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and hold a valid driver's license. Interns must be comfortable working in adverse weather conditions including high winds, direct sunlight, high heat, and humidity.

** Interns MUST be available for the mid-March start date. We do not accept applicants with delayed availability**

Housing provided on South Padre Island with $35 per work day stipend. Food and transportation not provided. Personal vehicle is not required on the island.
