Greens are
known for their curious nature, these sea turtles are very gentle.
Their life span is believed to be well over 100 years and they
have been clocked to swim over 50km per hour.
The turtle
under the cam is a 4 year old Atlantic green named allison that
was attacked by a shark and is now missing 3 flippers. Allison
would be happy to just swim in a straight line. The good news
is that Allison is now the center of prosthetic research. Dr.
Sellars, Dr. Cozad, and Dr. DeMaar are working on a prosthetic
rear flipper for this little green. Allison has also been practicing
to swim with a anti-rotation device that was created by Sea
Turtle Inc. staffers. This device is currently being tested
a couple times a week at the facility.
If you would
like to see Allison practicing in her swim jacket, come visit
Sea Turtle, Inc. on Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday at 11:00 am.
