Adopt – A – Hatchling
2009 Nesting Season Fundraiser
Proceeds will help Sea Turtle, Inc. fund next summer’s beach patrols and hatchling releases for South Padre Island, Texas.

Your donation will also assist families on the main nesting beach for the Kemp’s ridley sea turtle at Rancho Nuevo, Mexico. As a gift for your adoption, Sea Turtle Inc will include a coconut charm carved by the folks in Rancho Nuevo. In the past this community poached the Kemp’s for meat, eggs and leather. The coconut jewelry is an alternative income source for these local families.

For $11.00 we will send you an adoption certificate, hatchling photo, an informative pamphlet on Sea Turtle, Inc. and the coconut charm.

ADOPT -A- TURTLE PROGRAM

Adoptions are a donation made to care for and feed a turtle for one month. Sea Turtle, Inc. spends approximately $1 per day per turtle for human quality seafood and romaine lettuce. With your turtle adoption you will receive a photo of the sea turtle, a short biography, general information about the species, and a small gift. There are five resident sea turtles to choose from:

Allison the Atlantic Green Sea Turtle

Allison is a juvenile Atlantic green that survived a predator attack a number of years ago. Allison only has one remaining front flipper. Today she is awaiting the completion of a prostetic flipper being developed by a local vet and dentist. An anti-rotation device has been developed by Sea Turtle, Inc that allows Allison to dive and swim much straighter. (Video coming soon!)

Fred the Loggerhead Sea Turtle

Fred is a 210 pound loggerhead sea turtle that lives at Sea Turtle, Inc. Entangled in fishing line his flipper was amputated. After several unsuccessful attempts to release Fred, he is now considered non-releasable. Fred's loves to lounge underneath his backscratcher and munch on whole mackerel for breakfast each day.

Scooter the Kemp's ridley Sea Turtle

Scooter is a 70 pound Kemp's ridley that was attacked by a predator and is now missing two flippers. Scooter has been with us since he was a hatchling. He is one of the few sea turtles in the hospital that we know for sure is male. Scooter has a curious nature and loves a good backscatching with a brush.

Gerry the Atlantic Green Sea Turtle

Gerry is a 135 pound male Altantic green with a very impressive resume. He has been on over 40 different television show appearances as a youngster and now boasts the title of "World's Most Famous Sea Turtle". A large window on his tank allows visitors to pose for a nice shot with this turtle on a daily basis.

Merry the Atlantic Green Sea Turtle

Merry Christmas is a 160 pound female Atlantic green that has been in the hospital since the 1980's. Merry is a permanent resident due to genetic defects. She is well known for a very friendly and curious personality. Many visitors love to watch this happy turtle pop her head out of the water and appear to say "Hello!"

If mailing in the form, please circle the turtle you would like to adopt:

Allison, Fred, Scooter, Gerry or Merry Christmas
