What to expect to see on your visit

Educational presentations are offered throughout the day. These "Turtle Talks" teach the public about the mission of Sea Turtle, Inc. and the species of sea turtles found in the area. Depending on the time of year and the number of visitors present, a Sea Turtle, Inc. staff member will present to you in one of two ways.

If there is a large number of visitors present, the talk will be in our outdoor amphitheater. If there is a small number of visitors, then the staff may be able to lead a tour around our tanks as a group.

Visitors are also able do a self-guided tour of our outdoor facility. Along our walls are many educational displays and one can spend quite some time reading about the turtles and watching our patients and residents play in the pools. We even have a scavenger hunt to participate in, if you wish.

** During the winter months, if the temperature is below 55 degrees Fahrenheit, our outdoor tanks will be covered in order to maintain the necessary water temperature for the turtles. The gift shop will be open with our ICU turtles, but when the outside tanks are covered, the turtles are not visible.

Schedule of Events

• Allison's prosthesis is put on at 10 a.m. and taken off around 3:30 p.m. A brief presentation about her story is given at both times.

• One on one with Allison's lifeguard. While Allison is wearing her prosthesis from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., a life guard sits by her pool and can answer any questions or tell you her story.

• "Turtle Talks" are about 20 to 30 minutes long. The first one of the day begins at 10:15 am. Schedule varies, please call for daily times.

• Watch Gerry enrichment.  Around 3pm visitors are able to watch staff give Gerry a leafy snack in a way that simulates the sea grass beds in the Laguna Madre. Simulating activities done in the wild helps keep our sea turtles mentally and physically healthy.

• Turtle Enrichment. Around 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. we give our turtles enrichment. This is a great opportunity to see how we provide challenges to the turtles to mimic some of their natural behaviors. Enrichment helps stimulate their minds and practice important skills they need to successfully return to the wild.
