Sea Turtle, Inc. was founded in 1977 by Ila Loetscher, better known as "The Turtle Lady of South Padre Island." STI was formed to aid and assist in the protection of endangered Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle. The original goal was to restore the ridley population to a level that would ensure its survival.

Today, the mission of Sea Turtle, Inc. is rescue, rehabilatate and release injured sea turtles, educate the public, and to assist with conservation efforts for all marine turtle species.
