Sea Turtle, Inc. is very dependent upon volunteers. We encourage interested visitors that will be visiting South Padre for a month or more to become a volunteer at our facility. There are a number of volunteer opportunities available at STI. These include:

| Sea Turtle, Inc. Summer Internships |

We are now accepting applications for summer 2012 internships! Two internship time periods: 6 positions available for mid March – mid August and 2 positions for early May – mid August. Interns will learn about medical care of sea turtles and Kemp’s ridley nest conservation. Interns will work in our hospital facility with the general public and be required to give short educational presentations and help care for resident sea turtles. Tasks at the hospital include public education, medical treatment, triaging, calculating dosages, assisting in gift shop and tagging sea turtles. In addition to working at the hospital facility interns will also conduct ATV beach patrols for nesting sea turtles along a 32 mile stretch and remote 7 mile stretch of open beach. Interns also work in nest hatchery and assist with hatchling releases. Requirements: Applicants must be studying in or a graduate of biological science at a University or College. Undergrad applicants must be of Junior standing or higher. U.S. citizenship or paperwork to work in the US is required. Applicants must 18 years of age or older and hold a valid driver's license. Passport recommended but not required. Interns must be comfortable working in adverse weather conditions including high winds, direct sunlight, high heat and humidity. Housing provided on South Padre Island with $35 a day stipend. Food and transportation not provided. Personal vehicle is not required on the island. | Academic scholarships are awarded each year to college students studying in the biological sciences. Incoming freshman - graduate students may apply for these scholarships as long as they are accepted or enrolled at a University or College. Awardees often have a history of volunteerism and/or work history in biology. Downloadable versions of the applications are available below. | |||

High School Scholarship This is for graduating high school students that have been accepted to an accredited University and will be studying in the biological sciences. A downloadable version of the application is available. Click here for the application. The deadline for the application is May 15.

College Scholarship This is for University students of the undergraduate or graduate level that are studying in the biological sciences. A downloadable version of the application is available. Click here for the application. The deadline for the application is October 31. |
